Simple Ways to Make Thin Hair Look Thicker
Thinning hair can be disastrous for self-esteem. Hormonal imbalances, thyroid problems, vitamin and nutrient deficiencies, anxiety, certain medications, or perhaps heredity can cause baldness in both men and women. You can learn more about thinning hair in an article on Health Soul.
And the worst part is that you can lose up to a third of your hair before you even realize there’s a problem. I didn’t even know I had thinning hair until my stylist pointed it out. Here are five ways to make your thin hair look thicker. I have used these methods and found them to be effective. It may take a few months before you see results, so start today. Be sure to take decent care of the hair you currently have.
Use Rogaine (Minoxidil) Regularly
No, it’s not just for men. Rogaine is the number one choice for girls with hair loss. I use it every day and it has made a huge difference in the depth of my hair. Although it takes about three weeks to see optimal results, nothing works better. Minoxidil comes in a liquid or polyurethane formulation. As for me, I find the liquid formulation easier to apply to the scalp, and it’s much easier to quantify with the included pipette. I’ve never used the girls so I can’t speak to their results. I use a liquid formula for boys from another brand once a day. I use it directly on my scalp every night before bed and wash my hair in the afternoon.
Wash Your Hair With Nioxin Shampoo and Conditioner
According to Nioxin, their products gently remove residue and DHT on the scalp and hair and provide nutritious vitamins, proteins, and amino acids. I skip the whole scalp treatment because I use Rogaine instead. Also, I do not buy the “kits” offered on the Nioxin website. Rather, I buy large bottles of this shampoo and conditioner individually on Amazon, and they last me for months.
I can’t be 100% convinced that Nioxin’s promises are true, but it has made all the difference in the development of my hair in my experience. I use it in conjunction with minoxidil for the best results. And if not, I still use a salon-quality shampoo that doesn’t increase baldness. Why not try everything we can to maintain our hair properly? Using it at the roots can weigh your hair down and make it look thinner. This is true of Nioxin or alternative “thickening” conditioners.
Use Thickening Mousse
The next one is to use a thickening mousse. It can help volumize your hair. The volume boost lasts all day, even after a grueling workout at the gym. I’ve also been using Suave Professionals Business Control Boosting Mousse. It provides a great elevator to make my hair look thicker. If I don’t have time to blow dry, I use the mousse and let my hair dry completely before washing it. Choose a mousse that you like and give it a try.
Use Aloe Vera Treatment Weekly
I love natural remedies, but unfortunately, there aren’t many that work on thinning hair. Aloe vera might be the exception. If you want to try it, you can:
- Buy 100% pure aloe gel (or better yet, get it directly from the plant).
- Apply the gel directly to your scalp and leave it on for 30-60 minutes, then wash and clean your hair as usual.
- Repeat once a week to get the most benefit from this particular treatment. While I can’t say for sure if this directly helped hair growth, it improved my scalp’s overall health.
